The Saints Come Marching In

Norman, Oklahoma is opening up its doors to 13 women saints this weekend as this year's National Saints Convention comes to town. This is the first time that women saints have been invited to speak at the convention and share their stories.

The guests range from people such as Saint Juliana to Saint Eugenia. Each woman will have the opportunity to share her story with everyone at the convention. The purpose of the women speaking this year is to shine a light on their stories for other women and girls that need a powertful role model.

"I am so excited to share my story," said Saint Pelagien. "I didn't get accused of getting a girl pregnant for nothing. I could have used someone telling me their story when growing up. I can only hope a little girl hears about me and feels inspired."

The convention will be held at Lloyd Noble Center on Saturday, September 15th through Sunday, September 16th. This year is the 150th year of the Saints convention but only the 30th year that the convention has been held in the United States.

"Norman is so eager to get the opportunity to host these wonderful women as they come share their stories with fellow saints," Mayor Lynne Miller said. "I think it will be a wonderful opportunity for women and men to see people so critical to the progress in our world."

After the convention, there will be a meet in greet for any students that would like to talk with the saints at the Union. The meet and greet will be from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. University students should RSVP to the event, as the saints can only meet with so many people at a time.

Author's Note: When I was reading through the Woman Saint's stories this week, I was enthralled by the thought of all of them getting together to discuss their stories with each other. Being a PR major, I have had a lot of experience with writing in journalistic style such as news stories so I decided to write an article talking about an event in Norman that is hosting all of the women saints.

  1. I really liked the way you wrote your story. I was actually confused at first because I thought it was a real article for a real event that was taking place. For me personally, since I'm a guy, I've never really thought much about females and what they deal with. But it's always enlightening to read about women and their upbringings. It's like "even if it's not a big issue to me, I'm still happy that there's still wholesomeness in it".

  2. Hey Morgan!

I thought this was a really great piece! I enjoyed the journalistic style that you chose to go with. The clarity and briefness was very digestible for my tired brain this Monday morning. Are you planning to write your storybook or portfolio in the same style? I think it could make a very interesting project, like a newsletter or set of press releases.

I look forward to reading more of your posts!

  3. I like the journalist approach to the story. I thought it was going to start off as a real thing at first as well. I never knew there were many women saints so that is very interesting to me. I can only imagine the stories they would have to tell to young women today if they were allowed to tell their tales.

  4. Hi, Morgan! I really enjoyed reading your story and seeing how you put your own spin on the original version! I also really liked that you decided to make the point of view as if a journalist was covering a story. I have yet to see someone else have that same idea, so reading your story was really cool! I did not know that there were so many women saints, so learning that from your story was really interesting! Overall, I think you did a great job and I look forward to reading more from you!

  5. Hi Morgan! I like how you used your experience as a PR major to write this story. It is very original and is something I was not expecting. I thought it was a real promotion at first so you obviously know what you are doing. Good job and keep it up!
