Wikipedia Trail: From Odysseus to Oral Tradition

I decided to start where I started at the beginning of the semester, with Odysseus. The Odyssey was the first story that I read about all semester.

1. Odysseus: While reading through the page about Odysseus, I read a lot of things I already knew about Odysseus. That he was king of Ithaca, that he was the hero of the story of the Odyssey. What I did not know, however, was that he was suspected to have two personalities. One was named Odysseus and one was named Ulixes.

2. Homer: Homer is the author of two epic poems, the Odyssey and the Iliad. There is a lot of questions about when by whom and how these two poems were created. Many people believe that both of these epic poems were transmitted orally.

3. Oral Tradition: An oral tradition is a form of human communication where knowledge, art, ideas and cultural materials are received and given from one generation to the other. These transmissions are through speech, song and include folktales, ballads, chants, prose or verses.
