Week 10 Extra Reading
I chose to read the California/Southwest Fairy Tales unit for extra credit reading. The reading A of these stories were primarily about different legends of creation. The creation stories were about various animals/beings and how they created the earth. I think these stories are interesting because they're all very different and none of them are very logical. I am curious to learn more about the history of legends and how they continue to be passed down. Also, I wonder a lot about why many, many of these legends give Coyotes such important roles. In these stories, the coyotes tend to either create things or act as some kind of hero.
Typically, it is hard for me to read these stories as a storyteller because they are so broken up. However, this time it was cool to imagine writing my own creation story. There is a lot of room for creativity in these potential stories. If I follow the same kind of stories as I have read, it is clear to me that they don't need to make a whole lot of sense. A lot of them talk about eagles feathers being planted and turning into trees, even going further to say that these trees turned into humans.
